Admission Requirement:

Applicants seeking admission to the Master of Arts in Art (studio art or art education emphasis) must possess a B.F.A. in Art or Art Education or a B.S.E. in Art Education with course requirements similar to that of Arkansas State University. In addition, applicants must submit evidence of creative and scholarly ability consisting of a portfolio of 20 slides, three letters of recommendation from persons qualified to evaluate the applicant's potential for graduate work, and a writing sample comprising a personal statement about the applicant's goals, attitudes about their subject matter, media, and source.
No one set of prescribed courses is required of all candidates. The plan of study is based upon the goals and needs of the individual candidate. The student will form a graduate advisory committee and meet with this committee with both transcript and portfolio for the purpose of academic advisement and the assessment of possible deficiencies based upon review of the transcript and portfolio. The student is encouraged to form and meet with this committee during the semester prior to the initial registration, but the meeting must take place no later than nine weeks into the initial registration period, at mid-semester or mid summer term.
